Brenda's Story

Now retired (at 56) after years of working for the public and have a home on the Tennessee River in the Cherokee Heights area. I am a level 2 volunteer firefighter(retired) in our rural community, also a part of the EMA mass casualty team, a storm spotter for the national weather service out of Memphis, a ham radio operator, and chairman of events of the ladies auxiliary for our fire dept. all now retired from. I love fishing, hunting, boating and spending lots of time on the river. I also enjoy decorating, especially at Christmas. I am very happily married to Tony, the love of my life, my soul mate (took me years to finally find him), we have been married for 19 blissful years. We own our own business, called Cherokee Electric and HVAC, Tony does the work, I keep the books and love being a housewife for a change, after working in the public for most of my life. Retirement is great, but retirement is also so busy for us. Tony still has the business, but we have been able to cut back somewhat and have more time doing other things. We attend church and both are very active in church activities. In July of 2015 we went to Belize on a church missionary trip and stayed a week helping to build and complete a church in the village of San Marcos, Belize. We went there to be a blessing to others and came back home being the ones that were blessed. Tony did all of the electrical wiring for the church, that had been being built by our church missions team over the past year. We were blessed to have been able to be the first missions team to attend the first church service in the new church that our church people helped build and donate money for the church in San Marcos. We held women's bible study and VBS for the children and went home to home to give out care packages, food and Bibles. The people there are mostly Kectchi Indian and so grateful for everything we did for them. We left a piece of our heart in Belize and hope to...Expand for more
go back again. What a wonderful ministry, to be a missionary. This was such a life changing experience for the both of us. Tony and I now cook the Wednesday night meals for our church along with another couple and we serve approximately 100-125 people each Wednesday night. Needless to say we stay busy, but love serving our church family and love serving the Lord. We are on several committees within the church, so we don't have a lot of free time, but when we do, we spend it on the river, fishing and boating. I have 5 sons, they are all married and I have 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, whom I love so much, and one grandson in heaven, we lost in 2009. And did I say that I am a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan since 1979!! And of course I am a U.T. Vols fan! Love football and love sharing it with my sons, we have a blast in football season! I love cooking and especially baking and when time allows, fishing is my favorite past time. We love the wildlife here on the river. We feed the deer, turkeys, birds, squirrels, raccoons, ducks, geese, foxes and anything else that happens to come to feast in our yard every afternoon. They have a safe haven in our yard and know they are cared for and loved. We look forward to seeing the animals every afternoon that frequent our yard. My life is what I would call perfect! I have been truly blessed with a good life, a wonderful marriage and a wonderful family...for that, I thank our loving Lord and Savior. God has been so good to me and our family. Guess you could say.....I'm the happiest girl in the USA!!!!! Life just couldn't get any better or I couldn't be any happier! God has abundantly blessed me and my family and for that, I am thankful and count my blessings everyday. Life is good!! No, actually, life is great! And, as for me and our house, we will serve the Lord. I'm growing older, but with grace, and loving and living life....a life full of love, happiness and blessings.
